Anti-Town Pro-Scum

From Mafia Games Wiki

Jump to: navigation, search

This is a discussion that will come up in almost any mafia-game. Some players have a theory that if Anti-Town behavior is punished then more players will be force to act Pro-Town. However a large group of players also argue that we can't conclude that a behavior that seems Anti-Town in fact will benefite Scum (aka be Pro-Scum).

Two of the most argued issues in this discussion is:

  • lynch the lurkers
  • lynch all liars

Lynch the lurkers means voting for a player not participation at all or very little to the game. The idea is that lurkers are dead weight and no matter what alignment they don't move the game forward for Town and therefore they are acting Anti-Town. However the opposite side of the argument is that a lynch of the lurker will not provide Town with any useful information and therefore the lynch of a lurker is an Anti-town behavior in it self. The add the discussion if a lynch of a lurker will benefite Scum or not and you can have a busy Day talking Anti-Town versus Pro-Scum.

Lynch all liars is a bit different. At this moment in mafia most players will agree that lynch all liars isn't the best approach to the game. So it has become a matter of if, when and why a liars might act Pro-Town by not telling the whole truth. So it becomes a very individual discussion depending on which game and what players the issue is discussed amongst.

However the idea of forcing people to act Pro-Town is a comment belief that most mafia-players share. The issue is how to force them. Besides the most common issues there is a long list of behavior most can agree doesn't not help Town in general. But often a certain behavior can help Town in a specific game based on the set-up and ideas provided in the roles by the Moderator:

  • not voting
  • voting for a player no where near being lynched
  • voting for a player being lynch saying (s)he was going to be lynched anyway
  • demanding solid evidence before voting
  • voting based on a grudge
  • voting for dis-agreeing
  • lying
  • claiming vanilla Day 1 without any reason
  • claiming vanilla Day 2 without any reason
  • joke-voting without saying so before asked about the vote
